Theoretical and Performance Stages in Vocational Qualification Examinations

A guide to T1, T2, P1 and other assessment types, their relation to qualification units, critical steps, pricing and examination planning.

Theoretical and Performance Stages in Vocational Qualification Examinations

Vocational qualification examinations do not use one identical structure for every qualification. One unit may use only a theoretical assessment, while another may require both theoretical and performance examinations. Planning should therefore be based on qualification units and examination types.

Theoretical examination types

T1, T2 and similar theoretical assessments may be used to evaluate knowledge, understanding and occupational rules. The number of questions, duration and pass criteria follow the current national qualification document.

Performance examinations

P1 and similar assessments evaluate the candidate’s practical ability to perform the work. The site, equipment, occupational safety conditions and critical steps are checked. Failure in a defined critical step may affect the result independently of the overall score.

Unit and examination-type fees

The administration system stores active examination types and prices for each unit separately. The unit total is calculated from those active examination types. Where elective units exist, the minimum qualification fee is based on the lowest valid elective combination permitted by the qualification rules.

Certificate printing

Certificate printing is not included in examination or qualification fees. It is charged separately after the candidate succeeds in all required units and becomes entitled to certification.

Location-aware application links

When accessed from a country or province guide, the article automatically uses application and information-request links for that location, while the examination criteria remain those defined by the national qualification.
